English Paper Board Instructions how to awarded marks for 10th class and paper scheme

In this article, I have given special instructions to mark the English paper of class 10th according to the rules of the Lahore Board and all other boards of Punjab. These instructions are given to the sub-examiner while marking the English paper. According to these instructions, a sub-examiner has to mark the English paper. This article is helpful for the students as well as for the teachers who are teaching English at the matric level.




 Special Instruction to mark English paper

Class 10th

Q.1 MCQs    (19 Marks)

Each MCQs has one mark. One mark will be awarded if the student fills the complete bubble in the correct way. If a students fill two bubbles for one MCQs zero marks will be awarded. If students miss their paper coad examiners will check the paper according to four paper coads and the coad that has the maximum marks will be awarded the paper.

Q.2. Answer the questions (10 marks)

The answer should consist of complete meaningful sentences, Two marks should be awarded for each correct, meaningful sentence and relevant answer. One mark for the content and the other one mark for the correct spelling and grammar. Spelling mistakes, wrong tenses, and grammatical mistakes shall be encircled and the deduction of marks shall be done accordingly. No mark shall be given to the irrelevant answers. However, indicate irrelevant (IR) on such answers.

Q.3 Translation of paragraph  (08 Marks)

An idiomatic translation is required. The sense of the passage is needed instead of following the words blindly. The passage should be marked as a whole. The correct translation of the paragraph must be awarded maximum marks. However, you should distribute the marks sentence-wise. Sentence-wise marking will be helpful for you in awarding and deducting the marks.

evaluate this part of the question carefully. Maximum marks out of these two shall be posted to the front page of the answer sheet and should be included in the total. Candidates are required to paraphrase the given passage into simple English without borrowing or copying the original passage except for the few words whose usage is unavoidable. Copying the given passage should be strictly discouraged whole original and personal effort should be duly credited.

Q.4 Summary      (05 marks)

A summary of the poem with correct tenses and language should be given maximum credit. A mere summary is required. Critical appreciation and unnecessarily long attempts are not required but rather should be discouraged.

Q.5 Essay / Paragraph    (15 marks)

The essay / Paragraph may please be evaluated as a whole keeping in mind its beginning middle and end. Correct language, good expression, and relevant subject matter should be the criteria for maximum credit. Mistakes of spelling and grammar should be encircled and the deduction of marks should be done accordingly. Material given in the grammar and composition of Text Book Board is the minimum benchmark. Extra material and creativity should be encouraged.

Q.6 Change the sentence into an indirect form ( 05 Marks)

Each correct indirect sentence according to the rules of narration without grammatical mistakes carries one mark.

Q.7 Usege in sentences    (05 Marks)

One mark will be given for a correct and meaningful pair of words. Half (1/2) mark will be awarded for one correct word of a pair. Marks of only five pairs will be considered for counting.

Q.8 Translate the paragraph into English (08 Marks)

Mark the paragraph as a whole. The correct translation of the paragraph must be awarded maximum marks. However, you should distribute the marks sentence-wise. Sentence-wise marking will be helpful for you in awarding and deducting the marks. An idiomatic translation is required. The sense of the given passage is needed instead of following the words blindly. The candidate who attempts both ( the paragraph as well as the alternative question. Maximum marks out of these two should be included in t total.

OR

Alternative for English medium students

write ten sentences on a given topic. Ten sentences are required one sentence carries one mark. If a student writes more than ten sentences marks will not be deducted. Urdo medium students can also attempt this alternative question.
