The Use of 'Look forward to' with examples and exercise for B. A students

 In this article, I have explained the use of Look 'forward to' with examples and exercise. I have also given examples of affirmative sentences, negative sentences, and interrogative sentences.




The Use of 'Look forward to' 

'Look forward to' is used in the sentence in which someone is waiting for happening something. The method of translation of such a sentence is that Look forward is used after the Subject according to tense. After ' to' (the main verb + ing)  of the next part of the sentence is used. Look forward means that something will happen and you are waiting for it. If the second verb has a separate subject then use the objective form of the object, not the subjective form.

Structure

Subject + Helping Verb + Look Forward to + Main Verb +  Object
Subject + According to tense + Look forward to + IVing + Object

Examples

  • I am looking forward to seeing you again.
  • They were looking forward to seeing you again.
  • Believe, that I am looking forward to discussing that matter with you.
  • The poor people of Pakistan looking forward to seeing a bright and prosperous future.
  • The gardener looking forward to appearing new buds.
  • You are looking forward to earning many times more.
  • I am looking forward to my examination.
  • We are looking forward to the new edition of the book.
  • The people of Afghanistan are looking forward to a better future.
  • I am looking forward to her arriving next month.

The Use of 'Look forward to' in negative sentences

In negative sentences Not is used after the helping verb of the first part of the sentence.

Structure

Subject + Helping Verb + Not + Look forward to + Main Verb
Subject + according to tense + Not + Look forward to + Ving

Examples

  • I am not looking forward to seeing you again.
  • They were not looking forward to seeing you again.
  • Believe, that I am not looking forward to discussing that matter with you.
  • The poor people of Pakistan are not looking forward to seeing a bright and prosperous future.
  • The gardener is not looking forward to appearing new buds.

The Use of 'Look forward to' in interrogative sentences

In interrogative sentences helping verb is used ate the start of the sentences.

Structure

Helping Verb + Subject + Look forward to + Main Verb + Object
According to tense + Subject + Look forward to + Ving + Object

  • Were they looking forward to seeing you again?
  • Am I looking forward to discussing that matter with you?
